Programme Overview for Working Managers Program (WMP)

IIM Jammu(IIM J) constitutes an important position in revolutionizing the face of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. IIM J echoes the zeal and passion of a start-up while building on the heritage of the coveted IIMs. It has an inherited responsibility to cater the local businesses community, as a premium brand in business education, IIM Jammu through its PGPM programme offers the contemporary curriculum at par with the top global business schools. Further with the launch of its First WMP programme, the curriculum is aligned to cater to the requirements of mid-career professionals with the aim to propel their career.

Programme goals

A supportive learning environment is created as participants engage with faculty and peers. Throughout the journey, they unlearn, reflect, and redefine their boundaries. The critical learning outcomes in the programme will focus on

Analytical skills: Effective management decision requires analytical skills. Analytical skills are of utmost importance to propel a manger to have a competitive advantage in the decision-making process.

Leadership Skills: Have heightened awareness of what it takes to exercise effective leadership at senior levels through key initiatives, effective execution, influencing, inspiring and empowering people and managing change.

Critical and  Integrative Thinking: Demonstrate an ability to identify the central problem/issue, despite limited or overwhelming information, draw and assess recommendations using a perspective that integrates both functional (i.e. business functions) and relevant external information, and deploy them effectively to solve business problems.

Global Awareness: Understand the nature of global issues impacting business, including competition, policies, politics, culture, and customers and have the ability to manage them effectively.

Ethical Responsibility: Have the ability to make responsible decisions through enhanced sensitivity to various stakeholders, communities, and the environment that are affected by management decisions.

Programme Objectives

The overall goals of the programme are to broaden core managerial competencies to enhance the professional growth of students. The specific objectives of the programme are to:

Provide students with the fundamental principles of effective management of modern business organizations.

Help participants develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of business managers in an increasingly global nature of social and economic orders and corporate operations.

Sharpen diagnostic and analytical skills of participants for effective decision-making in complex business situations.

Sensitise students to the issues of cultural diversity and develop skills for effective management within multi-cultural work environments.

Strengthen strategic leadership and team working skills.

Working Managers Program (WMP) is ready to kick start at IIM Jammu in the year 2018. The 1st Batch of WMP is a twenty-one-month program and has been drawn in line with a similar programme being run by its mentoring institute, IIM Lucknow at its Noida campus.

Over the seven terms across 21 months, the WMP has 840 hours of coursework leading to 27-course credits.  Further, there is an optional International Module at a top business school, possibly in Europe.

The Programme is designed to provide a journey of learning, which prepares one to take up greater management challenges and responsibilities. The Student Advisory Services provided by the Institute to the batch of students offers guidance on charting a learning path and leveraging events and networking, which enable the participant to meet career aspirations.

*Dissertation is equal to two full course of credit

International Module (optional)

A 10-day immersive experience at one of the leading business schools (probably in Europe)  adds to the content of the program. The International Module is designed to enhance the cross-cultural experience and broaden the understanding of global management challenges, where a deeper insight is obtained about business procedures in overseas markets. The International Module comprises academic courses, workshops, industry visits and interactions with industry leaders.

Student Advisory Services and Corporate Interface Events

The Student Advisory Services helps prepare candidates to meet career goals and aspirations. The advisors would guide students on the choice of electives, events, and networking opportunities. Such assistance will help participants to springboard their careers and add substantial value to the organizations where they work.
